Russia continues attacks on Ukrainian cities

Russia continued its attacks on Ukrainian cities on Friday morning, hitting the southern Odesa region as well as Kharkiv, the country's second largest city.

At least one person was killed and 38 others were injured, including an infant, according to regional officials.

A major overnight drone strike in Odesa left one person dead and nine injured, Ukraine's Emergency Service reported, adding that residential buildings, businesses, schools and warehouses were also damaged.

Kharkiv was attacked for the second day in a row on Friday, the city's mayor, Ihor Terekhov, said.

A Russian missile hit a high-rise residential building in the city's Saltiv district, injuring 25 people, including a three-month-old baby, Terekhov said.

Historic and residential buildings in the city center were also damaged, he added.

In the Kyiv region, four people were injured, two of them seriously, regional governor Ruslan Kravchenko said.

The war in Ukraine started on February 24, 2022.

Russian President Vladimir Putin calls the war a "special military operation" to demilitarize Ukraine.

The West has responded to Russia, hitting the economy of this country with harsh sanctions.
