Mr. Trump's plan to bolster America's power and prosperity offers few

President-elect Donald Trump's plan includes key campaign promises: border security, strengthening the economy and putting America first. While it became clear on election night that Mr. Trump would once again become president of the United States, in his victory speech he reiterated his goals for the next four years.

Border security remains a top priority. He has said he will launch the largest criminal deportation program in American history and has called for the death penalty for any immigrant who kills an American citizen or law enforcement officer.

However, his vocabulary was softer during his election victory speech.

"We will close the borders. We want people to come to America, but they have to come in legally," Trump said.

Newly elected Vice President JD Vance touched on another key point of the incoming administration's plan.

"After the greatest political recovery in American history, we will deliver the greatest economic recovery in American history," Mr. Vance said.

"We will pay the debt. We're going to cut taxes," President-elect Trump added.

It is not clear how the new administration will meet its economic objectives without further increasing the deficit, which is already at record levels.

Mr. Trump's speech mentioned one person who could help in that regard, tech mogul Elon Musk, who Mr. Trump said would lead a "government efficiency commission" to reduce fiscal problems and fraud.

Mr Trump was present when Mr Musk's firm 'Starship' launched its last rocket into space.

"That was a beautiful thing. I called Elon and asked him, 'Who else can do this? Can Russia do it? No. Can China do it? No. Can anyone else in the United States do this but you? No, no one can do that.' Then I said, 'That's why I like it ,'" Mr. Trump said.

Experts say the praise for the billionaire Musk is about the idea of ??conveying power and strength on the global stage.

"The answer that we're the only country that can do this I think gives Mr. Trump the opportunity to use this image of Mr. Musk as not just an entrepreneur but a visionary, a genius, to support the idea that he's moving forward not as an individual, but as a nation," says Stephanie Alice Baker of City University London.

In his speech, Mr. Trump emphasized what would be his principle in office.

"I will govern with a simple motto 'promises made, promises kept,'" said Mr. Trump.

One of those promises would be what he calls America's next "golden age." /VOA
