Soon, aid to Gaza through a temporary port

The situation of the civilian population in the Gaza Strip continues to be catastrophic. A few weeks ago, the USA announced the construction of a temporary port. Very soon this port may be ready, because the US military has started work and is engaged with ships, announced the spokesman of the Pentagon, Pat Ryder mit.

The US government estimates that the temporary port complex in the northern Gaza Strip will be operational by early May. At the same time, the US Ministry of Defense made it clear that the provisional port was conceived in such a way. For US soldiers not to trespass on the territory of the Gaza Strip. The Israeli army announced that it will support the logistics and security of the American initiative, which also includes the construction of a floating fort.

The port sector southwest of Gaza City is expanding, the media noted, referring to data from satellite images. In the port area, supplies will be checked once again and then handed over to aid organizations for distribution.

Up to 150 trucks per day

A representative of the US government mentioned details of how the provisional port complex should work. It is thought that up to 90 trucks per day can be loaded with aid.

Once the port is fully operational, the number of trucks could reach up to 150. Israel's navy and air force will contribute to the protection of the aid operation. The project will be supported by about a thousand US soldiers, according to the government spokesman.

The supplies will initially pass through Cyprus, facilitated by the US military and a coalition of partners, it is reported. Humanitarian aid will be delivered by air or sea to Cyprus. There it will be verified and prepared for further supply to the destination.

Merchant ships will transport the aid, taking it to the floating jetty off the coast of Gaza. According to Pentagon data, this fort is a type of platform, which will be located a few kilometers from the coast of the Gaza Strip. From there, the aid will be transported by smaller ships to the coast of the Gaza Strip, the US government representative noted.

Famine emergency warnings

The US government again appealed the risk of a famine emergency in the Gaza Strip. "The humanitarian situation in Gaza is extremely bad," said a representative of the US Agency for International Assistance (USAID). Nearly 30 percent of children in the northern Gaza Strip show signs of malnutrition.

The US announced in early March that the US military will build a temporary port amid the state of emergency in the Gaza Strip, in order to supply food, water and medicine to war zones. For weeks, they have been working on the plans for the construction of this port./ DW
