Macron: Ready to discuss France's use of nuclear weapons against Russia

French President Emmanuel Macron has said he is ready to discuss the use of French nuclear weapons as part of a "credible European defence" against threats from Russia.

In an interview he gave to the regional media of the French media group Ebra, Macron stressed that he is "in favor of opening this debate, which should include defense against missiles, the launch of long-range weapons, nuclear weapons because they possess them they either have US nukes on their soil."

"France will maintain its uniqueness, but is ready to contribute more to the defense of European soil," he added.

After Britain's withdrawal, France, which has about 300 nuclear weapons, is the only nuclear power in the European Union.

As Politico points out, Macron has in recent weeks taken an increasingly tough stance against Russia regarding the war in Ukraine.
