Russia grants citizenship to 3,344 foreigners based on the decree to serve in

Russia has granted citizenship to 3,344 foreigners since the beginning of this year, based on a decree signed by President Vladimir Putin, which allows passports to be issued to participants in the occupation of Ukraine and their family members.

Irina Volk, the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, announced these figures on November 4.

It is not clear whether these figures include only passports issued to military personnel, or even to their family members.

The decree allows citizenship for military personnel who sign a one-year contract with the Russian Army, or with pro-Russian military formations fighting in Ukraine.

At the same time, Russia has implemented laws that enable the removal of citizenship from neutralized citizens who refuse to register for military service.

Volk previously said that 1,117 neutralized Russians lost their citizenship in the first eight months of 2024.

Last month, the Ministry of the Interior began forcefully enforcing the law, increasing the number of revocations of citizenship./REL
