UN: The humanitarian situation in Lebanon is worse than in the 2006 war

The United Nations has said that the humanitarian situation in Lebanon is worse than during the last war against Israel, 18 years ago.

"The humanitarian situation in Lebanon has surpassed the levels of severity of the war in 2006," the UN Office for Emergency Relief (OCHA) said on Sunday.

"The situation has escalated again in the last few days, the Israeli army is issuing orders for the displacement of residents from Baalbek and Nabatieh, shortly before these locations are attacked."

The UN office has said that in addition to the dead, the situation has been made more difficult by "the destruction of critical infrastructure, including health care, as many hospitals are overwhelmed and in urgent need of blood."

The current war between Israel and Hezbollah - a terrorist group declared by the United States and other powers - started in October last year.

Iran-backed Hezbollah has launched attacks on Israel in a show of support for its Palestinian ally Hamas - also designated a terrorist organization by the United States and the European Union.

On October 7 of last year, Hamas attacked southern Israel, killing over 1,200 people and taking about 240 hostages.

Israel then launched a war in Gaza with the aim of destroying the group.

As a result of the Israeli campaign in Gaza, more than 43,000 people, mostly women and children, have been killed, according to Palestinian health authorities.

From the offensive launched by Israel in Lebanon, at the beginning of October, at least 2,890 people have been killed, according to the Lebanese authorities./ Rel
