Trump and Harris in North Carolina, in the last weekend of the election campaign

Democrat Kamala Harris and Republican Donald Trump will be in North Carolina today in an effort to secure support in the battleground state, with Americans just three days away from the presidential election.

This will be the fourth day in a row that Vice President Harris and former President Trump have visited the same state on the same day, underscoring the critical importance of the seven battleground states that are likely to determine the fate of the election. Polls show that in these states, support for them is almost equal.

More than 70 million Americans have already voted, according to the Election Lab at the University of Florida, fewer than the record numbers set for early voting in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, but still indicative of a high level of enthusiasm among voters.

Saturday marks the last day of early voting in North Carolina, where more than 3.8 million votes have been cast so far. The election is being held as the western part of the state is still trying to recover from the deadly flooding caused by Hurricane Helene.

Ms. Harris plans to run alongside rock star Jon Bon Jovi in ??Charlotte, North Carolina's largest city, which, like Georgia, has 16 electoral votes, the second most of the 7 battleground states. For a candidate to be declared the winner of the presidential elections, he must secure at least 270 electoral votes out of 538 in total.

North Carolina backed Mr. Trump in the 2020 election but elected a Democratic governor on the same day, giving hope to both parties.

" We have an opportunity in this election to turn the page on a decade with Donald Trump, who has spent all his time trying to get Americans to point the finger at each other ," Ms. Harris told a rally. in Janesville, Wisconsin, on Friday.

Mr. Trump will hold a rally in Gastonia, west of Charlotte, at noon before speaking in the evening at the 22,000-seat First Horizon Coliseum in Greensboro.

" This election is a choice between whether we have four more years of incompetence and abject failure, or whether we begin the most important four years in the history of our country ," Mr. Trump told a crowd in Michigan on Friday. ./ VOA
