The US accuses the Russians of creating fake video about the elections in

US intelligence on November 1 accused "Russian influence actors" of creating the video, which purportedly shows a Haitian immigrant claiming to have voted several times in the US state of Georgia.

Three intelligence agencies – the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency – issued a joint statement regarding the video.

The video features a man claiming to be an immigrant from Haiti talking about how he intended to vote multiple times for Vice President Kamala Harris in two Georgia counties.

Georgia is one of seven key battleground states for the Nov. 5 presidential election, where Harris and former President Donald Trump are competing.

Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger said on October 31 that the video was "definitely fake" and likely created "by Russian hackers ... who seek to incite dissent and chaos in the run-up to the election."

He said his office was made aware of the video, which purportedly shows a Haitian immigrant with several Georgia state IDs claiming to have voted multiple times on Oct. 31.

"This video is fake and is an example of the disinformation we have seen in this election. It is likely interference from outside in an attempt to incite dissent and chaos on the eve of the elections," he said in a statement.

Intelligence officials said the video was created by "Russian influence actors" and is part of "Moscow's broader effort to raise unsustainable doubts about the integrity of the US election and sow division among Americans."

In the statement of the intelligence agencies, it was also said that the Russians also created the fake video showing a person who says he is connected to the Democratic campaign and who claims to have received bribes from an American artist.

For months, the US intelligence community has said that Russia's influence operations are aimed at spreading a divisive narrative and promoting support for Trump, charges that Russia has denied./ VOA
