North Korea: The new missile it tested was the Hwasong-19

North Korea tried to show its muscle by testing a new intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) a day ago. The North's state media reported on Friday that the missile tested was a solid-fuel Hwasong-19.

The missile launched on Thursday flew higher than any North Korean missile to date, according to North Korea, but also according to the militaries of South Korea and Japan, which tracked its flight into space before it fell into the ocean between Japan and Russia.

The North's state-run KCNA news agency hailed it as "the world's largest strategic missile."

While doubts remain about North Korea's ability to guide such a missile and protect its nuclear warhead as it enters the atmosphere, the Hwasong-19, like North Korea's latest ICBMs, proved it can reach almost anywhere in the United States.

"The new type of ICBM proved to the world that the dominant position we have secured in the development and production of nuclear weapons of the same type is completely irreversible," said North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, who supervised the testing, KCNA said.

The United States, South Korea and Japan identified the missile as an ICBM and condemned the launch, saying it escalated tensions.

South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said North Korea may have tested a new long-range solid-fueled ballistic missile.

JCS spokesman Lee Sung Joon said the release may have been made to give North Korea a stronger position in future negotiations and was timed for the US election.

US National Security Council spokesman Sean Savett called the missile launch a "flagrant violation" of multiple UN Security Council resolutions, and said it "unnecessarily escalates tensions and risks destabilizing security." in the region".

Savett said that the US will take all necessary measures to ensure the security of the American territory and its allies, South Korea and Japan./ Rel
