Russia has warned South Korea against sending weapons to Ukraine, after Seoul opened the door to sending military aid to Kiev in the event of a large-scale attack on civilians.

Washington's ally, Seoul has so far provided non-lethal and humanitarian aid to Ukraine.

But South Korea has so far ruled out sending military aid to Ukraine.

However, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol told Reuters that " if there is a situation that the international community cannot accept, such as a large-scale attack on civilians... it may be difficult for us to insist only on humanitarian or financial support".

The Kremlin said the start of arms shipments would mean direct involvement in the conflict in Ukraine.

"Unfortunately, Seoul has taken a rather unfriendly attitude ," said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

"The start of sending weapons will indirectly mean a certain stage of involvement in this conflict" , he added during the statement to the journalists.

Ukraine - which has been facing Russian occupation since February 24, 2022 - has been receiving military aid from the United States and other NATO countries.

On April 19, the first Patriot air defense systems arrived in Kiev, which are expected to help the Ukrainian forces to respond to the continuous Russian air attacks./ REL
