The US strikes an Islamic State leader in northern Syria

The US military said it had carried out an airstrike against a senior leader of the Islamic State militant group in northern Syria.

"The attack resulted in the possible killing of the targeted individual," US Central Command said in a statement.

According to her, two gunmen were killed in the operation.
