The European Union said that together with Kosovo and Serbia, it has created today a Joint Monitoring Committee to supervise the implementation of the Agreement or the normalization of relations, one month after the agreement of the parties in Ohrid for the implementation of a European plan for this issue.

The Joint Monitoring Committee will be chaired by the EU's special envoy for the talks, Miroslav Lajcak. Kosovo will be represented by its ambassador in Brussels Agron Bajrami and Serbia by its chief negotiator Petar Petkovic.

The committee will meet regularly in Brussels, an EU statement said, noting that the details would be finalized and approved at the first meeting of the committee, which will be held after the next high-level meeting is expected. to be held in Brussels on May 2.

On March 18 in Ohrid, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Kosovo's Prime Minister Albin Kurti agreed to implement a Western-backed plan for the normalization of relations, which is a condition for fulfilling their aspirations for membership in the European Union.

The agreement, also supported by the United States, requires good neighborly relations, recognition of documents and symbols, and respect for each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity. It requires that the parties do not hinder each other in the integration processes, but it does not require mutual recognition. The plan also foresees the fulfillment of all the agreements previously reached in the talks mediated by the European Union, including the one for the Association of municipalities with a Serbian majority in Kosovo.

European Union officials have said that Kosovo and Serbia must fully implement the agreement and any refusal to do so will have negative consequences.

At the beginning of this month, the chief negotiators of Kosovo and Serbia agreed on the text of a statement on the missing persons during the war, which is expected to be approved at the meeting on May 2./ VOA
