Russia attacks Odesa and other regions of Ukraine with missiles

At least four civilians were killed and 27 others were wounded by Russian airstrikes in Ukraine last night, the press office of the Ukrainian defense ministry announced.

A 50-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman were killed in a Russian airstrike in a border town in the northeastern Kharkiv region, regional governor Oleh Syniehubov said.

Russian forces carried out 12 rocket, artillery, mortar, tank and drone strikes in the Kherson region, killing one civilian, the governor of the region in southern Ukraine, Oleksandr Prokudin, said. During these attacks, the market in the center of Kherson and a school were hit.

A woman was killed and another person was wounded in northern Ukraine after Russian forces shelled the border village of Richki, officials in the region said.

Russian forces also carried out drone attacks at night in the southern Ukrainian region of Odesa.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Minister of Defense said on Wednesday that the Patriot air defense systems have arrived in Ukraine.

Ukrainian defense officials have long sought advanced weapons that can intercept Russian missiles. Ukrainian forces have been training for several months in the United States and Europe on the use of the Patriot missile system.

"Our beautiful Ukrainian skies are safer today due to the arrival in Ukraine of the 'Patriot' air defense system," read a tweet by Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov. "Our defense forces quickly learned how to use this system and our partners kept their word," he added.

Officials in Kiev have said in the past that equipping the Ukrainian military with the Patriot system would strengthen it and constitute a major step in the fight against Moscow. The Patriot system can hit fighter jets, cruise missiles and short-range ballistic missiles./ VOA
