Russia attacks Ukraine's energy infrastructure

The president of Ukraine said that Russia carried out massive attacks on energy infrastructure throughout Ukraine, hitting 7 regions of the country with more than 50 missiles and drones.

Officials said the attacks swept across Kiev and other parts of northern and western Ukraine, damaging homes and the country's rail network. Three people, among them an 8-year-old girl, were injured.

The attack happened on the day that Ukraine celebrates the day of victory over Nazism during the Second World War.

Russia has repeatedly attacked Ukrainian energy infrastructure during the war, now in its third year, and has claimed thousands of lives.

Officials say the attacks have damaged nearly half of Ukraine's energy infrastructure since Moscow launched its attack on Ukraine in February 2022.

According to the chairman of the Energy Commission, Andrii Herus, the damage is estimated to be 12.5 billion dollars.

President Zelenskyy noted that the attack took place on the day Ukraine marks the victory over Nazism during World War II and added that only if the world is united can it stop President Vladimir Putin.

During the night hours, Russia launched 55 missiles and 21 Shahed drones, the Ukrainian Air Force announced. Air Force Commander Mykola Oleshchuk said 39 missiles and 20 drones were downed.

Russian troops also damaged the railway line in Kherson.

Also, on Wednesday, 5 people were injured, among them three children, in an attack that hit an education center in the Kharkiv region. Mayor Ihor Terekhov said that one of the children is in critical condition./ VOA
