Rubio: We're running out of options for sanctions on Russia

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has stated that the US is running out of options to impose sanctions on Russia.

"Well, there's not much left to sanction on our part, I mean, we hit their big oil companies, which is what everyone has been asking for ," Rubio said before a meeting of G7 foreign ministers.

Last month, the US imposed sanctions on Rosneft and Lukoil and their subsidiaries in an attempt to cut off Russia's oil revenues, its main source of funding for the war in Ukraine, and push Moscow to the negotiating table in an effort to end the Kremlin's aggression. The sanctions take full effect on November 21.

The EU has imposed 19 sanctions packages against Russia, hitting Russia's LNG, banks, cryptocurrency trading, further tightening its grip on the shadow fleet that clandestinely moves sanctioned and other goods, with the aim of reducing Russia's war economy.

The Ukrainian government said it knows there is more to sanction and is ready to work with partners to show them.

"Regarding Rubio's statement about exhausting sanctions options... there are absolutely more objective options. More big oil companies, banks and fleet/infrastructure. And components and defense. And payments. And the Arctic,"   said Vladyslav Vlasiuk, envoy to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on sanctions. /CNA
