NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated this Thursday that the alliance has responded swiftly and decisively to Russian airspace violations.
In his speech in the Netherlands, Rutte stressed that NATO's strong presence on the ground demonstrates its determination to protect every ally.
"The men and women in Brunssum ensure that NATO's stance in this region remains strong and credible regardless of threat or provocation. NATO has responded quickly and decisively to Russian airspace violations, and every day, our strong presence on the ground demonstrates our resolve. Regular exercises and the deployment of foreign ground forces on the eastern flank send a strong signal to any adversary that NATO is prepared and vigilant," Rutte said.
In recent months, a series of drone incursions have occurred in several European countries, sometimes near airports or military facilities, including over a Belgian military base.
Some European officials have blamed Russia for the incidents, linking them to hybrid warfare and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Moscow has steadfastly denied any involvement./CNA
