The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, is visiting the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, on September 20 to discuss Europe's support, preparations for winter, protection and progress regarding the loans of the Group of Seven most industrialized countries (G7). ).

"My eighth visit to Kiev comes as the heating season begins, and Russia continues to target Ukraine's energy infrastructure," wrote X von der Leyen.

A day earlier, she said that 160 million euros of frozen Russian assets will be allocated to meet Ukraine's urgent humanitarian needs this winter.

Russia has destroyed about 9 gigawatts of Ukraine's energy infrastructure, which von der Leyen said is "the equivalent power of three Baltic states".

The President of the EC also said that the EU intends to restore energy generating capacities of 2.5 gigawatts, which, according to her, would also increase exports to supply Ukraine with 2 gigawatts of electricity.

During the visit to Ukraine, the European leader will meet with the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, and other officials.

Her eighth visit to Ukraine is taking place as Ukrainian forces have been conducting an offensive in Russia's Kursk region since August, and Russian forces are continuing their offensive in eastern Ukraine.
