The second wave of explosions in Lebanon kills 20 people and injures 450 others

At least 20 people have been killed and more than 450 injured in a second wave of explosions in Lebanon.

Telecommunications used by the armed group Hezbollah exploded in the southern suburbs of the capital Beirut, the Bekaa Valley and southern Lebanon - areas seen as its strongholds.

Hezbollah blamed Israel for that attack. Israel has not commented on the allegations.

The attacks came after Israel's Defense Minister Yoav Gallant announced a new phase in the war and after an Israeli army division moved north.

UN Secretary General António Guterres warned of the risk of escalation of tensions and called on all parties to exercise maximum restraint.

Hours after Wednesday's blasts, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to return tens of thousands of displaced people from the country's north safely to their homes.

Defense Minister Yoav Gallant meanwhile said that Israel is opening a new phase in the war and that the center of gravity is shifting to the north through the diversion of resources and forces./ CNA
