Egypt will not accept any changes to the security measures that existed on its border with Gaza before war broke out between Israel and Hamas - the group designated a terrorist organization by the US and the EU - last October, Egypt's foreign minister said on Wednesday. , Badr Abdelatty.

Border security and whether Israel will continue to maintain a troop presence along a 14-kilometer-long security zone, known as the Philadelphia Corridor, have become key points in the months-long talks to reach a cease-fire agreement and release hostages in Gas.

The Israeli military sent troops into the Philadelphia Corridor in May when it launched an offensive around Rafah.

Egypt, which is brokering ceasefire talks, says Israel must withdraw troops and that Palestinians must regain a presence at the Rafah crossing between Egypt's Sinai Peninsula and Gaza.

"Egypt reiterates its position, it does not accept any military presence along the opposite side of the border crossing and the aforementioned corridor," Abdelatty told reporters during a press conference with his American counterpart, Antony Blinken, in Cairo.

Abdelatty also said that any escalation, including the explosions that injured thousands of people in Lebanon on Tuesday, will create obstacles to achieving a ceasefire in Gaza./ REL
