Russian President Vladimir Purin has arrived in North Korea, officially starting his first visit in 24 years. According to foreign media, the news was confirmed by the official Kremlin itself, which says that the Russian President arrived in the country's capital, Pyongyang, where he will conduct his two-day visit.

Putin was met at the airport by North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, according to RIA Novosti. Defense Minister Andrei Belousov, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and heads of the Russian space agency are part of his delegation.

In a presidential order issued a day earlier, Putin said Moscow is seeking to sign a "comprehensive strategic partnership treaty" with North Korea.

The two leaders are expected to use the trip to show the strong ties between Russia and North Korea. Putin's political adviser, Yuri Ushakov, has also signaled that the two countries could sign a security partnership.

Meanwhile, the international community has raised the alarm about his trip. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said the military alliance was concerned about the support Russia could provide for North Korea's missile and nuclear programs.

Meanwhile, a fighter jet accompanied Putin's plane as it flew over Russia to the eastern Siberian city of Yakutsk. This is the first reported case accompanied by military aircraft inside the country, according to the investigative newspaper Agentstvo.
