"The Iranian people are ready to suffer for ultimate freedom"/ Trump:

At a White House press conference, President Donald Trump said the Iranian people would be willing to suffer if it ultimately secured their freedom.

Asked specifically whether attacking those sites inside Iran would be punishment for the civilian population, Trump replied: "It's suffering. They would be willing to suffer that to have freedom."

The president also further said that the Iranian people want the US military to continue its bombing campaign.

His comments come amid criticism that his pledge to blow up Iranian power plants, bridges and desalination plants would constitute war crimes.

Trump has given Tehran until Tuesday at 8 p.m. Eastern Time to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, otherwise he will continue with such attacks.

"The only thing I can tell you is that they want freedom. They have lived in a world that you know nothing about. It is a violent and terrible world," Trump said.

Trump further expressed that he is very disappointed with NATO regarding the conflict in Iran. The US president added that NATO leaders will meet with him on Wednesday and that suddenly, now they want to send help. He claims that NATO members wanted to refrain from helping until the US won the war. /CNA
