US: Iran-linked militias targeted US diplomats in Iraq overnight

A US State Department spokesman said Iran-linked militias targeted US diplomats and facilities in Iraq in two overnight attacks.

"Amid these vicious terrorist attacks against our diplomatic mission, we have consistently called on the Iraqi government to immediately fulfill its responsibility to stop attacks on American facilities and to prevent terrorist militias from using Iraqi territory to launch attacks. We will not hesitate to protect our personnel and facilities if the Iraqi government is unable to fulfill its obligations ," the spokesman said in his statement.

The spokesman did not specify the exact locations where the attacks were targeted. Meanwhile, international media have reported that the US Embassy in Baghdad, the US Consulate General in Erbil and the Diplomatic Support Center in Baghdad have faced repeated attacks since the start of the US-Israeli war against Iran.

The US State Department announced last week that it is offering a reward of up to $3 million for information on attacks on its diplomatic facilities in Iraq. /CNA
