Amid war with Iran, Israel accelerates production of missile interceptors

The Israeli government has approved a plan to accelerate production of Arrow missile interceptors, as the war with Iran enters its sixth week and Iranian retaliation shows no signs of easing.

The Arrow system forms the top layer of Israel's multi-level defense network, designed to intercept long-range ballistic missiles outside the atmosphere and at its edges.

The decision, made by Defense Minister Israel Katz and the ministry's director, General Amir Baraam, was approved by the ministerial committee on procurement.

"The decision will advance a new agreement with Israel Space Industries that will enable a significant increase in both the production rate and the number of interceptors, as part of preparations for developments in the campaign ," the defense ministry said in a statement.

The move comes after reports suggested that Israel could be facing pressure on its stockpile of interceptor missiles. In March, Israeli military officials denied the Semafor report, citing US officials as saying that Israel had informed the US that the number of interceptor missiles was at a critically low level.

Katz said Israel has sufficient surveillance assets to protect its citizens, adding that the move aims to ensure continued operational freedom and necessary stability.

"The ayatollahs' regime should know: the state of Israel is strong and prepared to continue the campaign for as long as necessary ," Katz said. /CNA
