Pentagon expected to send additional Marines and warships to Middle East

The Pentagon is expected to send an additional naval unit and warships to the Middle East, according to two US officials who spoke to CBS News, the BBC's US partner.

According to reports, elements of the US Amphibious Ready Group and the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit are expected to deploy to the region, following a report published by the Wall Street Journal on possible Pentagon plans.

This group usually consists of around 5,000 sailors and marines, stationed on several warships, and is used for rapid military operations and response missions in tense areas.
