After conflict with Israel, Iran reopens airspace to international flights

Iran has reopened airspace in the central and western parts of the country to international flights, according to the state-run Nour News agency.

The decision came days after the June 24 ceasefire in the 12-day war between Iran and Israel, which had caused serious disruption to air traffic in the region and forced several international airlines to bypass Iranian airspace.

Majid Akhavan, spokesman for the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development, announced that in addition to the previously reopened eastern airspace, Iran is now allowing international flights over its central and western regions. However, domestic flights and routes in or out of these areas remain suspended.

"In addition to the eastern half of the country's airspace being available for domestic, international and flight operations, the airspace over the central and western parts of the country is now open only to international flights," Akhavan said in comments carried by the official IRNA news agency.

Tehran had closed its airspace on June 13, following a large-scale attack launched by Israel.

This decision by Iran is expected to facilitate airlines, reducing diversions through the Caucasus and Gulf countries and improving Europe-Asia routes. /CNA
