Osmani-American congressman: Kosovo has done a lot to improve the situation in

The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, said on Thursday during a meeting with the American congressman, Mike Turner, that Kosovo has taken substantive steps to improve the situation in the north of Kosovo, while accusing Serbia of destabilizing it through "criminal gangs". , announced the Presidency of Kosovo.

Osmani hosted Turner in a meeting on August 31 in Pristina, where he reiterated "the importance of the full implementation of all obligations arising from the Brussels Agreement and the Ohrid annex," according to a statement from the Presidency.

Tensions in the north of Kosovo increased in May of this year, after residents of the northern municipalities - Zveçan, Leposaviq and Zubin Potok - opposed the entry of new Albanian mayors into the municipal buildings. Residents of these Serb-majority municipalities protested for weeks in front of the buildings, and in some cases the situation escalated into violence.

In July, Kosovo agreed on steps to de-escalate the situation following requests from the European Union and the USA, reducing the police presence in and around municipal buildings in the north to 25 percent, as well as reorganizing elections in these four municipalities. .

Turner comes to Kosovo a day after he visited Belgrade, where he met with the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vu?i? and the prime minister, Ana Bernabi?, with whom he talked about US-Serbia relations and the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia.

Meanwhile, President Osmani has described Kosovo's relations with the USA as strategic and existential, "so she thanked Congressman Turner for the support over the years, which he has given to Kosovo on the path of state building", the announcement states.

"The unwavering commitment of the United States to the cause of Kosovo has been indispensable in our journey towards independence and statehood," said Osmani.

She informed Congressman Turner that Kosovo's goal is membership in international organizations such as: NATO, EU, Council of Europe and others, according to the Presidency.

Osmani also mentioned Kosovo's aspiration for membership first in the Partnership for Peace (PfP), and then in NATO, where the support of the USA is essential.

She also emphasized the close cooperation of the Kosovo Intelligence Agency with the intelligence services of the USA in addressing common security challenges that may threaten peace and security in Kosovo and the region, the announcement states./ Rel
