Orban: EU wants war in Ukraine to continue, but has no money to equip it with

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, after discussing the US peace plan for Ukraine during an emergency EU summit, declared that Europe wants the conflict to continue without having a single euro to finance Kiev.

"After today's video conference, I can say one thing for sure: the European Union wants to continue the war, but it has not a cent to supply Ukraine with military equipment, not a cent to finance Ukraine's operations and it has not the slightest idea how to find this money. The EU has the idea that member states should pool their resources, but Hungary is not ready to do this, or to take out a joint loan. We are not ready to mortgage the future of our grandchildren to finance a war that Ukraine cannot win," Orban said in a Facebook reaction. 

Along the same lines, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said that it would be in the interest of Brussels and Kiev to immediately accept the US peace plan for Ukraine, as the situation, according to him, is constantly deteriorating.

"I believe that the only acceptable path for all European politicians, from Brussels to Warsaw and Vilnius, taking into account humanity and reason, would be full and unconditional support for the American peace efforts and this 28-point plan. It will not improve, because the situation is getting worse every day ," Szijjarto told Hungarian reporters after a meeting of EU trade ministers. /CNA
