Collapse in Pristina's public transport, all bus lines suspended

Public transport in Pristina has suspended services as of today due to serious financial problems caused by the blocking of budgetary funds. However, some private lines have also announced the cessation of operations for this reason.

Public transport in Pristina has suspended services as of today due to serious financial problems caused by the blocking of budgetary funds.

Following announcements from Urban Traffic and the company "24 Yjet", "Prishtina Shpk - Line 7B" has also announced that as of Monday, it will completely stop providing passenger transport services.

The company explains that the suspension is a result of the failure to release financial resources from the central level, which has made it impossible for the Municipality of Pristina to repay its obligations to it.

The announcement by "Prishtina Shpk - Line 7B" states that the financial blockage has created significant difficulties, affecting operational functioning and the ability to continue services.

Payment delays, which date back to May, have affected suppliers, partners and the company's internal technical processes, making it impossible to continue normal operations.

Despite the stable performance so far, the company states that current conditions no longer allow for the provision of service and appeals for an immediate solution to the financial situation so that public transport can be restored as soon as possible.

"Prishtina Shpk remains committed to resuming work as soon as the financial obligations to us are fulfilled. We thank the citizens for their understanding," the announcement states.

Regarding this, yesterday, Mayor Përparim Rama declared that citizens are being put at risk like never before.

"In the history of the state of Kosovo, we have rarely seen citizens endangered to this extent. For more than a year, they have allocated the budget that the capital needs, but the budget of Pristina has been blocked for political reasons. We have filed a criminal complaint against Minister Murati for violating the law; we have addressed the prime minister, the president and the Constitutional Court. The citizens of Pristina have been left without salaries."

Hekuran Murati's reaction was immediate.

The acting Minister of Finance announced that the December budget was allocated to the municipality of Pristina on Friday, but that the government did not make any payments that day.

"On Friday afternoon, the Treasury allocated the December budget for the Municipality of Pristina ahead of schedule, with the idea of ??paying some bills for essential services, such as electricity. However, at the end of the day, the Treasury informed me that despite the allocation, the staff of the Municipality of Pristina had finished their work schedule and had not made any payments, with the excuse that 'we will do it on Monday'. Instead of paying the bills during working hours, Përparim Rama and his deputy mayors had decided to carry out anti-government propaganda during the weekend, complaining about the alleged blockade."

Otherwise, Urban Traffic has informed citizens that the suspension of public transport on all lines is due to financial difficulties and a lack of fuel.

In its announcement, the company expressed regret for the consequences that this interruption may cause to citizens and announced that the service will resume immediately after the release of funds by the Ministry of Finance, which will enable the settlement of the financial obligations of the Municipality of Pristina towards the company.

The company "24 Yjet" has also announced that it has suspended all urban lines.

"We ask for the understanding of passengers who travel with our company, but the responsibility for this situation is not ours," the company announced.

Today's interruption of public transport has left thousands of citizens without transportation options, creating great difficulties in their daily movement./ Monitor
