Cooperation with the USA/ Osmani and Kurti hold talks with American congressmen

Republican Congressman Mike Turner and Democrat Donald Norcross held separate meetings with the President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, and the acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, with whom they discussed deepening cooperation between the two countries in various fields.

Osmani, during a statement to the media on November 24, said that both congressmen have supported Kosovo for a long time.

"As contributors to peace in the region, we have this visit that includes almost the entire region to see how we can continue cooperation in favor of peace and stability. Therefore, these have been the issues we have discussed, bilateral cooperation between Kosovo and the US, developments in the security and defense sector, our alignment with NATO, the security challenges we are facing and how we can coordinate even more with the US in order to have the most successful integration of the Serbian community within Kosovo ," she said.

Osmani was asked to comment on a statement made to local media in Kosovo by former US envoy for the Western Balkans, Philip Reeker, who called for the country to have a cooperative government with the US.

"There has never been and never will be an anti-American government in Kosovo," said Osmani, emphasizing that Kosovo has the most pro-American people in the world and "every Kosovo government comes from this same people."

"So, there can be no differences between the people who create the Government and the Government, as long as each Government has its own methods, strategies, the way it works with partners and how they have worked and how they will work in the future. I suggest you address the questions to the Government," Osmani emphasized.

She added that she sees the US as an existential partner in Kosovo's development, in protecting freedom and independence, and in overcoming security challenges.

"They are irreplaceable partners for our security, our progress in Euro-Atlantic integration, therefore it is essential that we have full coordination ," said Osmani.

Meanwhile, after the meeting with Kurti, his office said that the conversation with the American delegation focused on cooperation in the field of defense. Recently, Kosovo has received some military equipment it purchased from the United States, including drones and armored vehicles.

The country has also ordered Javelin anti-tank systems and has also signed the Communications Interoperability and Security Agreement (CISMOA), a key document that enables secure information exchange and increased interoperability between the two forces.

"In addition to investments in defense, the [acting] Prime Minister stated that Kosovo remains steadfast in its Euro-Atlantic orientation and its goal of membership in NATO and the EU, not only as a beneficiary of the security umbrella, but also as a contributor to peace and security on the European continent," Kurti's Office said in a statement.

Kurti also discussed with the American delegation the possibilities of cooperation in the field of energy and technology and in other projects that are expected to be implemented, such as those in rail transport.

The two American congressmen visited Kosovo as part of a regional tour. The day before, they visited Serbia, where they met with Serbian President Aleksandar Vu?i?. /REL
