WHO: About 16% of the world's population is sterile

One in six people worldwide face infertility problems, according to a report published by the World Health Organization (WHO) on April 4.

This report also noted that there are not many differences in the prevalence rates of this phenomenon between high-, middle-, and lower-middle-income countries.

The proportion of adults affected by infertility during their lifetime is 17.8 percent in high-income countries and 16.5 percent in low- and middle-income countries.

OBSH-ja thotë se në shumicën e vendeve, trajtimi i fertilitetit financohet nga individët dhe jo nga shërbimet shëndetësore kombëtare, gjë që mund të rezultojë në vështirësi financiare për shumë njerëz.

Sipas raportit, njerëzit në vendet më të varfra shpenzojnë një pjesë më të madhe të të ardhurave të tyre për kujdesin e fertilitetit në krahasim me njerëzit më të pasur.

High costs are seen as one of the factors preventing people from accessing such treatments and eventually being unable to conceive in those cases where natural methods fail.

"The report reveals an important truth - infertility does not discriminate," said WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom.

He added that "the large percentage of people affected shows the need to expand access to fertility care and to ensure that this issue is no longer overlooked in health research and policy, so that safer, more effective and affordable ways to achieve parenthood are accessible to those who seek them". /REL
