"A completely unique character in the history of Kosovo"/ Kurti

The acting Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, remembered the artist and patriot Jusuf Gërvalla on his birthday.

Kurti, through a post on social networks, writes that Gërvalla, in his life of only 36 years, shaped a unique profile in the history of Kosovo.

Kurti writes that Gërvalla's songs and poems have survived the times, just as his example of dedication to national commitment has survived time.

" Today is the birthday of Jusuf Gërvalla, the patriot, artist and political activist among the most important in the political history of Kosovo. Jusuf Gërvalla was born on October 1, 1945 in the village of Dubovik, Deçan. He would have turned 80 today, if his intense life had not been violently interrupted by a political assassination organized by the Serbian state against him, his brother Bardhoshi and their collaborator Kadri Zeka, on January 17, 1982, in Germany.

During his short life, which was cut short when he was only 36 years old, Jusuf Gërvalla shaped a profile of journalist, poet, writer, singer and political activist, within his figure, which represents a completely unique character in the history of cultural intelligentsia and politically engaged artists in Kosovo. His songs and poems have survived the times, along with the example of dedication to national engagement and depth in political thought.

In the lyrics of the song "I'll Return, Mother", Yusufi sang of his birthplace with these verses:

Spring and autumn passed, mother,

Since you evoked only one return,

If I can't do it myself,

I will tell my son.

Let every joy spread in the homeland,

Please live with hope, mother,

That someone will knock one day,

In that hearth where my voice first echoed.

The grandchildren will build their house there.

With this song lyrics in mind, beyond the pain that permeates the memories of Jusuf Gërvalla's fate, it seems so magnificent that so many years later, he is remembered by so many visitors to his museum house in Dubovik. Like today, like every year.

"Praise to Jusuf Gërvalla for all his work and life ," Kurti writes./ CNA
