Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu today formally apologized to Qatar for the killing of one of its citizens during an airstrike in Doha that targeted a Hamas delegation.
"As a first step, Prime Minister Netanyahu expressed his deep regret that Israel's missile attack on Hamas targets in Qatar inadvertently killed a Qatari soldier. He further expressed regret that, by targeting Hamas leadership during hostage negotiations, Israel violated Qatar's sovereignty and affirmed that Israel will not carry out such an attack again in the future," the White House said in a statement.
At least five low-ranking Hamas members were also killed in the September 9 attack, which targeted senior Hamas leadership involved in negotiations for a US-backed ceasefire.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump said he and Netanyahu have discussed how to end the war in Gaza./CNA
