Guido Deus, a well-known name in the ranks of the Christian Democratic Union in Germany, is the new mayor of the federal city of Bonn. In the run-off election on September 28, 2025, against incumbent mayor Katja Dorner, Deus received 53.99% of the vote or 74,321 votes.
But who is Guido Deus and how did he enter politics?
Guido Deus was born on 29 May 1968 in Cologne-Porz. In the 2017 North Rhine-Westphalia state election, he was elected to parliament as a direct candidate for the Bonn I constituency. He was also honorary mayor of the Beuel district of Bonn from 2014 to 2020. Since 2020, Deus has been chairman of the CDU council group in Bonn.
Before his political involvement, Deus was active in Catholic youth work. He is a member of the Rotarians and active in various foundations and associations in Bonn.

Education and career
After graduating from Beethoven-Bonn Gymnasium in 1988 and attending a one-year trade school, Deus completed an internship in the non-technical higher service of the Federal Property Administration and studied at the Federal University of Applied Sciences (Department of Finance) from 1989 to 1992, graduating with a degree in finance.
From 1992, he worked at the Federal Property Office in Bonn, which merged with the Federal Real Estate Agency (BImA) in 2005. In 2005, Deus was promoted to senior government official and served there as Director of Press, Communication and Marketing from June 2007 until his election to the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia in May 2017.

Political career
Deus joined the CDU in 1987 and is also a member of the Association of Small and Medium-sized Businesses. He has held various positions on the boards of the CDU Bonn district association, the CDU Beuel city district association and the local CDU Beuel-Nord and Beuel-Mitte associations.
Deus has been a member of the Bonn City Council since 1999, was vice-chairman since September 2019 and has been chairman of the CDU parliamentary group since November 2020. He is currently chairman of the Committee for Europe, International Affairs, Science, Economics and Labor and a member of the city's main committee. /CNA
