Narendra Modi is sworn in as the Prime Minister of India for the third time

Narendra Modi, leader of the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party, has been sworn in as India's prime minister for the third time.

The ceremony took place at the official residence of the President of India.

Modi's party has won India's general election, securing 293 seats in Parliament, but fewer than polls had predicted.

In these elections, the opposition in India has strengthened, winning 234 seats.

Thousands of people attended Modi's inauguration ceremony in Delhi.

Heads of state from Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka and the Maldives have also gone there.

The security measures were strict - there were 2,500 police officers in the inauguration area.

During the ceremony, the Indian president, Draupadi Murmu, also led the swearing-in ceremony of Modi's cabinet.

Modi thanked the voters for the new mandate and said that he will do everything to eradicate corruption and poverty./ REL
