Moscow changes the commanders of the Russian Navy

The Russian Ministry of Defense announced that it has made changes to the command of the fleet. Admiral Alexander Moiseev has been appointed commander of the navy.

After he took this post, the previous post he held, namely the leadership of the Northern Fleet, was given to Vice Admiral Konstantin Kabantsov. Meanwhile, the leadership of the Black Sea fleet was entrusted to the former Chief of the General Staff, Vice Admiral Sergei Pinchuk.

Military journalists and bloggers had already reported on some of these changes. On April 2, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced the decree signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding the changes.

The changes in command come as Russia faces setbacks in its Black Sea fleet in the war against Ukraine.

Since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Kiev's forces have managed to sink key ships of the Russian Navy, such as the battleships Moska and Sergei Kotov, among others. Several other ships were damaged.

Most of the Russian Navy's ships, which were based in Sevastopol in Crimea, illegally annexed by Moscow, have been moved from Novorussia. Ukraine attacks the Russian fleet with naval drones and cruise missiles and has claimed to have destroyed a third of Russia's navy ships so far./ REL
