One of the UK's most wanted men, on the run after horrific child sex crimes, has finally been caught. 80-year-old Richard Burrows was captured after 30 years on the run.

One of Britain's most wanted fugitives has finally been caught.

He has been wanted by Cheshire Police since 1997 for "horrific child sex crimes".

He was arrested at Heathrow Airport on Thursday as he returned to the UK from Thailand.

Burrows was on the run, charged with two counts of assault and 11 counts of indecent assault.

The charges related to historical child abuse cases which allegedly took place between 1969 and 1971, according to Cheshire Police.

Some of the cases are said to have taken place at a children's home in Congleton, while others are believed to have taken place in the West Midlands.

Investigations have been carried out over the years and Burrows was listed as one of the UK's most wanted men by national crime charity Crimestoppers.

The pedophile was arrested following a joint operation between Cheshire Police and the National Crime Agency.

Detective Inspector Eleanor Atkinson said the arrest showed criminals that "no matter how long you hide, we will find you".

She also stated that:

“Our determination to find Burrows has not wavered over the past 27 years and his arrest marks a significant step forward in this case and the beginning of closure for all those involved.

I would like to thank the public for the information they have provided over the years during our search for Burroes and hope his arrest provides some reassurance.

I also hope his arrest acts as a warning to any other wanted suspects - demonstrating that no matter how long you hide, we will find you and you will be arrested."

Duncan Burrage, NCA International Liaison Officer in Thailand, said:

"Using our international network and working closely with colleagues at Cheshire Police, we have been able to trace a fugitive wanted on extremely serious charges.
