Killing civilians in Gaza, Netanyahu admits guilt: These things happen in
Footage from the Gaza attack

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke today about the death of seven workers of the humanitarian organization "World Central Kitchen" (WCK), in Gaza.

"When you are at war, these things happen," Netanyahu said.

Three British nationals were among those killed, along with Australian, Polish, Palestinian workers and a dual US-Canadian citizen.

Those killed are believed to be from the UK, Australia, Poland and Palestine, as well as a US-Canadian citizen. In a statement, the WCK said: "Despite coordinating moves with the Israeli army, the convoy was hit while leaving the Deir al-Balah warehouse, where the group had unloaded more than 100 tons of humanitarian food aid brought to Gaza by sea."

Erin Gore, chief executive of WCK, expressed her anger when told of the casualties, claiming it was an attack on "humanitarian organizations that show up in the worst situations where food is used as a weapon of war".

In a video message released today, the Israeli prime minister did not lose his temper, saying: "Unfortunately, in the last 24 hours there has been a tragic case of our forces inadvertently hitting innocent people in the Gaza Strip. This is what happens in times of war. We are looking into the matter thoroughly, we are in contact with the governments and we will do everything we can to ensure that this does not happen again"./ CNA
