Petrol and diesel prices in the UK continue to rise

Drivers in the UK are continuing to feel the impact of the Middle East conflict at the gas pump. Every $10 increase in the price of oil raises petrol prices by around 7p per litre, analysts say.

These changes take about two weeks to take effect, but some fuel companies have already started to raise prices to counter the expected rise in costs. Unleaded petrol has risen by another penny in the last 24 hours to 139p a litre. D

he oil rose another 2 pence to 155.1 pence, says Simon Williams of the RAC. The price of oil has risen by almost 13 pence, or 9%, since the start of the war and is at its highest price since May 2024, he says.

Brent crude, the global benchmark for oil prices, is trading at $89.44 a barrel - more than 20% higher than before the war. If oil settles at around $90 a barrel and the pound and US dollar stay where they are, average petrol prices could reach around 140 pence a litre, and diesel around 167 pence a litre, the RAC says./CNA, translated by BBC
