What is the Pentagon planning for the Strait of Hormuz?

The Pentagon is considering additional options, such as escorting tankers by US Navy warships, to keep the Strait of Hormuz open, following reports of small-scale mine laying in the Strait by the Revolutionary Guard Navy.

President Trump demanded that Iran stop all mine placements in the Strait, adding that "if they remove what's been placed, it would be a big positive step."

Speaking to reporters, White House press secretary Caroline Levitt stressed that the war will not end without Iran's complete and unconditional surrender, whether they accept it or not, and that Trump will be the one to determine when Iran ceases to be a threat.

According to the US Pentagon, yesterday's air operations were the most intense since the beginning of the war.

"It was like hell. They were bombing everywhere, every part of Tehran," a resident of the Iranian capital told Reuters.

Iranian authorities estimate that around 1,300 people have been killed in airstrikes across the country, while around 30 people have lost their lives in Iranian attacks across the Middle East.

Meanwhile, the UAE's state-owned oil company ADNOC ordered the closure of its Ruwais refinery after a fire caused by a drone attack at the facility. The complex is a hub for Abu Dhabi's refining and petrochemical activities and has a total processing capacity of up to 922,000 barrels of oil per day.
