Forbes publishes list of world's billionaires

Forbes has released its 40th annual "World's Billionaires" list, the definitive ranking of the planet's richest people. Wealth rose to record levels last year.

This year's list features 3,428 billionaires, the most since the list began in 1987. The world's richest people have a record wealth of $20.1 trillion combined, up from $16.1 trillion in 2025. Albanian businessman Samir Mane is also part of the list and ranks 2177th.

Meanwhile, Elon Musk tops the Billionaires list for the second year in a row and is the richest person ever recorded, with a fortune of around $839 billion.

His net worth grew by half a trillion dollars from last year, thanks to a surge in the value of Tesla and SpaceX, which aims to go public in 2026. Musk is the first person on record to reach the $800 billion mark, as he moves toward becoming the world's first trillionaire.

Google co-founder Larry Page comes in second with an estimated net worth of $257 billion, followed by fellow Google co-founder Sergey Brin in third ($237 billion). Jeff Bezos holds fourth place ($224 billion) and Mark Zuckerberg ($222 billion) complete the top five.

President Donald Trump's wealth rose 27% to about $6.5 billion, largely thanks to cryptocurrency deals and the expungement of his New York fraud conviction. He ranks 645th worldwide.

The 2026 ranking features 390 newcomers, including Dr. Dre; Beyonce Knowles-Carter; and tennis legend Roger Federer. The United States has the most billionaires, with a record 989, including 15 of the top 20. China, including Hong Kong, is second, with 610, and India (229) ranks third. /CNA
