NYT: Iran's new leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, was wounded at the beginning of

According to a report by the prestigious American media outlet The New York Times, Mojtaba Khamenei, the new supreme leader of Iran, was wounded in the leg on the first day of the war during joint US and Israeli attacks against Iran.

The injury is suspected to have occurred on February 28, 2026, when the bombing began.

Iranian and Israeli sources told the NYT that he suffered several wounds, mainly to his legs. He has not appeared publicly or made any statements since then.

Mojtaba Khamenei became supreme leader after his father, Ali Khamenei, was killed in the first attacks of the war.

His election as leader is historic because it is the first time that power has passed from father to son in the Islamic Republic. He was previously a very powerful figure, but mostly behind the scenes.
