Macron appoints new prime minister/France hit by "Block Everything" protests

France has been plunged into chaos as an anti-government "Block Everything" protest campaign this Wednesday across the country.

There were up to 50 arrests in Paris alone by 8am on Wednesday, as attempts were made to disrupt major transport links, including the Eurostar hub at Gare du Nord.

Protesters in masks and hoodies could be seen clashing with riot police in Paris, while also attempting to erect barricades and block road intersections in cities including Bordeaux and Marseille.

The uprising came less than 24 hours after President Emmanuel Macron appointed his seventh prime minister in less than nine years.

Sebastien Lecornu has vowed to do a better job than his immediate predecessor, Francois Bayrou, who was forced to step down after losing a self-imposed vote of confidence in the French parliament on Monday evening. /CNA
