IAEA: Agreement with Iran to resume inspections

According to information from the head of the UN nuclear watchdog IAEA, Rafael Grossi, this agency has reached an agreement with Iran to resume inspections.

The agreement reached with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi is "an important step in the right direction," Grossi wrote on the X platform. The agreement on practical modalities was reached in Cairo.

Practical mechanism for cooperation
However, there is still much to be done to implement the agreement, Grossi said at a press conference in the Egyptian capital. Aragchi said the new agreement with the IAEA takes into account Iran's concerns, while also creating a framework for continued cooperation.

"This agreement creates a practical mechanism for cooperation that reflects both Iran's exceptional security situation and the agency's technical requirements," he said.

Iran suspended cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency in July after Israeli and US attacks on its nuclear facilities. Israel and the United States justified their attacks by arguing that Iran was very close to developing its own nuclear bomb. The Iranian leadership, however, has repeatedly stressed that its nuclear program is for civilian purposes only./ DW
