The Spanish Federation referred to Kosovo as a territory/ FKK complains to UEFA

The Football Federation of Kosovo (FFK) has sent a protest note to the European Football Association (UEFA) after the Spanish Football Federation referred to Kosovo as "the territory of Kosovo".

In a letter addressed to UEFA chief Aleksander Ceferin and the Spanish Federation chief Rafael Louzan, the FFK described as "unacceptable" the actions of the Spanish Federation in official communications on the eve of the qualifying match for the upcoming European Under-21 Championship.

Spain referred to Kosovo as "Kosovo territory" in the announcement it made for the U21 national team's match against Kosovo U21, which will be played this afternoon at the "Fadil Vokrri" stadium in Pristina.

"Such an approach denies the sovereignty of Kosovo, which is an independent state and represented by the Football Federation of Kosovo, an equal and full member of UEFA, as is the RFEF itself," the letter sent by the head of the FFK, Agim Ademi, said.

The FFK said that this is not the first time it has faced such an approach from the RFEF "and we consider this completely unacceptable."

"We demand from UEFA a clear and immediate reaction to this matter, as well as a public correction and official admission by the Spanish Football Federation, acknowledging that their actions were inappropriate and contrary to UEFA's fundamental principles ," the letter said.

The FFK added that it hopes to continue to be treated as an equal member of UEFA, not only by the European federation, but by all national federations.

Albania and Serbia are co-organizers of the European Under-21 Football Championship to be held in 2027.

Kosovo and Spain are part of qualifying Group A, along with Finland, Romania, Cyprus and San Marino.

Kosovo began their qualifying campaign on September 5th with a draw against Romania.

Even in 2021, in the qualifying matches for the 2022 World Cup, Kosovo played against Spain. The Spanish Federation at the time, in announcing the match with Kosovo, referred to it as "the territory of Kosovo."
