The Attica region in Greece is in its second day of a taxi service shortage after the Attica Taxi Drivers Union (SATA) announced a 48-hour strike from 6 a.m. Tuesday until 6 a.m. Thursday.
Taxi drivers are reacting to urban travel in vans. At the same time, they announced a rally outside the SATA offices.
"The taxi industry is facing another violent attack from the government and the economic interests it serves. With the unacceptable and openly photogenic Joint Ministerial Decision (JMD) No. 134328/20-8-2025, an attempt is made to definitively shift the transport project to the cartels of multinationals and large business groups, with the aim of eliminating professional self-employed taxi drivers," the relevant announcement states.
These demands are expressed at a time when the Greek government, in line with its neoliberal policies, is legislating new forms that are considered punitive towards those who work on daily wages./CNA
