Who is Wesley Clark? / The last witness in Thaçi's defense

Retired General Wesley Clark will be the last to testify on Thaçi's behalf, whose defense began calling witnesses in September.

So far, former US Assistant Secretary of State James Rubin, legal advisor to the Kosovo delegation during the Rambouillet negotiations in 1999, Paul Williams, former British diplomat John Stewart Duncan, retired US diplomat Christopher Hill, and Mike Durkee, advisor to General Clark in 1999, have testified in Thaçi's defense.

They all said in their testimonies that Thaçi had no authority over the KLA.

Wesley Clark is a retired American general. During his career, among other things, he led the NATO air campaign against Serbian military targets in 1999.

Clark served as Supreme Allied Commander Europe for NATO from 1997 to 2000.

He spent 34 years in the U.S. Army, receiving many military decorations, several honorary titles, and the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

The 11-week NATO bombing campaign, launched to stop Serbian forces' violence against Albanians in Kosovo, was halted in June 1999, one day after the signing of the Kumanovo Agreement.

It led to an end to the killings and ultimately, years later, to the independence of Kosovo.

Clark is seen as a hero in Kosovo for his role in the liberation of the country, and for this he was honored in Pristina in 2024 with a decoration. There are even streets in Kosovo named in his honor./REL
