Athens bans rallies ahead of Volodymyr Zelensky's visit

The Ukrainian president is expected to visit Athens today. According to analysts, Zelenskyy's visit to Greece is likely to be related to developments in the energy sector. He will meet with his Greek counterpart Konstantinos Tasoulas, as well as Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

For security reasons, neither the details of Zelenskyy's program nor the duration of his stay in the Greek capital have been made public.

According to analysts, Zelenskyy's visit to Greece is mainly related to the energy sector. Ukrainian media, citing sources within the Ukrainian president's office, have not ruled out the possibility of an agreement in this area.

In recent months, Athens has moved forward with its energy planning, both with the inauguration of a gas compression station in Komotini and with efforts to accelerate the Greece-Cyprus connection through the Great Sea Interconnector.

The compressor station in Komotini is the first plant of its kind in Greece with an electric motor, a technologically advanced and zero-emission project, capable of receiving mixtures of natural gas and hydrogen, marking a step towards a new era of clean fuels.

Gatherings banned in Athens

A ban on public gatherings from 6 am to 10 pm has been announced for Sunday, November 16 in central Athens, Filothei and Halandri due to Zelenskyy's visit.

According to the authorities, "the above ban is imposed because holding gatherings poses a serious threat to public safety due to the possible commission of serious crimes, in particular against life, physical integrity and property, and seriously threatens to disrupt socio-economic life in the relevant areas."/ CNA
