Trump exempts a range of food products from tariffs

US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order exempting a range of food products, including coffee, bananas and beef, from tariffs. The decision comes as the Trump administration faces growing pressure over high prices.

Trump had previously stated that his tariffs, currently a base rate of 10% on imports from all countries, with additional taxes on many trading partners, would not lead to higher prices for American consumers.

The Trump administration's new tariff exemptions for food products took effect at midnight on November 13, the White House announced.

Which items are no longer subject to tariffs?

The White House released a list of more than 100 products that will no longer be subject to tariffs. Some of them include:

Coffee

Cocoa

Black tea

Green tea

Vanilla beans

Beef products.

Acai, avocado, banana, coconut, guava, lemons, oranges, mango, bananas, pineapple, various peppers and tomatoes.

Red pepper, bay leaves, cinnamon, cloves, coriander seeds, cumin seeds, curry, fennel seeds, ginger, nutmeg, oregano, red pepper, turmeric and turmeric.

Nuts, grains, roots and seeds, such as barley, Brazil nuts, capers, cashews, chestnuts, macadamia nuts, miso, hearts of palm, pine nuts, poppy seeds, tapioca, taro and water chestnuts. /CNA
