Against Turkish participation/ Israel wants to decide on peacekeeping troops in

Israel wants to determine for itself which countries can participate in the international peacekeeping force planned for the Gaza Strip.

"We have control over our security and we have also made it clear that, with regard to international forces, Israel will determine which forces are unacceptable to us," Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said at a cabinet meeting.

This is also acceptable to the United States. The peacekeeping force is part of US President Donald Trump's plan to end the war in the Gaza Strip.

Netanyahu against Turkish participation

The US government has already ruled out sending troops to the Gaza Strip and has called on Arab and Muslim countries to contribute funds and troops. The peacekeeping force could include soldiers from Egypt, Indonesia and Gulf Arab states. However, it remains unclear whether these or other countries will actually participate.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated during a visit to Israel that the international force should be made up of “countries that Israel agrees with.” Work to organize such a force is still underway.

Rubio declined to comment on which countries Israel might disagree with. But Netanyahu has recently signaled that he would reject the participation of Turkish security forces.

Turkey, a NATO member and one of the strongest military powers in the region, but President Recep Tayyip Erdogan harbors senior Hamas officials in his country and has repeatedly accused Israel of genocide, which Israel strongly denies. /DW
