1 person killed and 1 Albanian injured/ 2 ministers resign in Slovenia

Two Slovenian ministers, Justice Minister Andreja Katic and Interior Minister Bostjan Poklukar, submitted their resignations today, after a 48-year-old man was beaten to death and an Albanian citizen was injured in front of a bar in Novi Mesto. 

The murder occurred on the night between Friday and Saturday, after a 48-year-old man came to the bar at the invitation of his son, who called him due to threats from some Roma.

According to local media, the main suspect is a 20-year-old man, who had previously attacked the Albanian before fatally stabbing the 48-year-old Slovenian man near a restaurant. The victim died in hospital from his injuries, while the Albanian is in serious condition.

"With my resignation, I want to contribute to calming the situation, everyone should think about their responsibility," said the Minister of Justice.

"I take objective responsibility," said the Minister of Interior.

Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob also spoke at the conference, announcing urgent legal changes regarding Roma issues and security.

"Violence does not disappear overnight. It arises in an environment where punishment does not follow the crime, where justice is delayed and where responsibility loses its meaning. Yesterday's event shocked us all," said Golob.

Among other things, the National Security Council decided to send additional police forces to Novo Mesto, and if necessary, to send a special police unit. Citizens have been gathering in the center of Novi Mesto since morning, lighting candles. /CNA
